BECOME A COMMUNITY LEADER
Do you have the skills to help out after an interruption? Or maybe you would like to be involved but you don't know where to begin. Consider taking some Emergency Management Institute (EMI) online courses offered by FEMA, become a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member, and/or volunteer for a non-profit or your local emergency management office.
Depending upon where you live and work, you may or may not have access to all of the above mentioned opportunities. CERT courses, as an example, are taught in many jurisdictions within our region, although not everywhere. To find your nearest CERT course click HERE!
In the City of Seattle, you may not find a CERT course, however, you can become involved with the Seattle Emergency Hubs. The Seattle Hubs help the community prepare beforehand and share resources to respond after an interruption. There are a number of these groups located throughout the City and you can find one near you on this map, or if you can't find one near you, consider starting your own.
If however, you have no interest in getting involved as a Community Leader, at least take a step to making you and your family or workplace better prepared.
