Get Trained in CPR and First Aid
Your chance of survival from cardiac arrest in King County has risen dramatically since 2002. In 2002 the survival rate was merely 27%, whereas today the survival rate is up to 62%. King County has the best survival rate of anywhere in the world. So, what makes us so much better prepared?
There are several contributing factors: a fantastic response system, readily available Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), skilled first responders and perhaps most importantly the vast number of community members trained and willing to provide life saving procedures. Each of these factors contribute to the survival rate.
Can you provide these life saving skills? If not and you need another reason, read on. According to the American Heart Association, the life you save is likely to be a loved one. There are any number of organizations that offer certification courses in CPR and First Aid, however we strongly recommend the American Red Cross. First Aid Supplies
Lastly, make sure to have supplies on hand too. Get a first aid kit sufficient for your family's size and store it with your disaster supplies. Check on the supplies and add replacements, as necessary. If you have pets make sure to include supplies for them too.
