We sent out a short survey weeks to over 600 recipients of this email series, of those receiving our tips 54 opened the newsletter and 8 participated in the survey. Not particularly significant for survey purposes, however I will share what I found. Of those 8 that did respond, there was only one question that was asked, wherein all participants had completed the task. The task that everyone had done was establish an out of area contact. Also to note, all of the 8 respondents indicated that they have not conducted a fire or earthquake drill in their homes in the past year, yet most participated in drills at work. All of the respondents also shared that they had some items for their kits at both home and work. Perhaps most concerning was that none of the respondents indicated that they had a solid plan for their home and the responses were all over the board in regards to how much time to prepare for to be on their own.
I have attached an article below that KING5 has put together wherein they interview professionals within the field of emergency management and I encourage you to read through the article. Additionally, KING5 will be featuring disaster preparedness measures during broadcasts on Monday July 24th to educate our community on the importance of being prepared.
